Trust Advisors

Many financial advisors are skilled at accumulating assets but less adept at wealth management issues. This case study shows the power of a second opinion in client service.

Opportunity

An advisor, a long-term client of ours, worked with an elderly widow whose portfolio was entirely in blue-chip stocks, which she loved. They paid dividends but provided less income than she needed. Her advisor recommended she sell some to buy higher-income bonds. She wouldn’t budge. He came to us for advice.

Solution

Our client, the advisor, was pleased that we could offer an experienced second opinion to his investor. We have worked with him for more than 20 years, during which time he was employed at a national broker/dealer, an independent regional advisor, and a Registered Investment Advisor. He and his clients appreciate that we provide customized, consistent, and personal service.

Outcome

We met with the advisor and his investor. We wanted to hear her stories about the stocks she loved and her emotional attachment to what they meant. We suggested she keep all her beloved stocks but sell portions to help produce the income she needed. Our in-house fixed-income team now manages the widow’s bond portfolio for high-income and tax efficiency.
