Medical Professionals

Doctors help save and prolong lives. They have a financial life cycle as well. This case study shows how we guided a new doctor and his family through the phases in his financial life.

Opportunity

One of our clients, now a doctor, received a significant signing bonus from his new employer. However, he had accumulated $300,000 in student loan debt during school and residency. He and his young family needed financial guidance. They wanted to create a nice lifestyle, pay down debt, save, and do good.

Solution

As we do for all individual and family clients, we employ a disciplined multi-step approach to finding a tailored solution. We met several times with the couple, discussed their investment style, risk tolerance, budget, portfolio allocation, insurance, education and retirement needs, and tax, estate, and legacy planning goals.

Outcome

Three years later the couple has done better than they expected. They have built an emergency cash fund, established and funded a joint retirement and education fund, and researched the charities they want to begin supporting. They have been able to pay off one-third of his student debt.
