4 Ways to Help Hurricane Helene Recovery in SC

If you are looking for ways to help out after Hurricane Helene, we put together a list of organizations and opportunities across the Upstate and Lakelands regions.

We have supported many of these organizations in the past and know they do good work here in our communities. However, be alert for scams! Always check that you are donating to a legitimate organization.

1. Give Funds

Greenville

United Way of Greenville: The Upstate chapter has set up an emergency relief fund, which is sending 100% of donations to Greenville area non-profits and families struggling after the storm.

Feeding the Carolinas
American Red Cross
Salvation Army

Greenwood

United Way of the Lakelands is currently putting all donations received toward local disaster relief efforts.

Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries: According the the organization, they “experienced significant damage with hundreds of trees down, numerous cottages and staff homes damaged, and structures across campus damaged or destroyed. Power outages for multiple days have led to loss of food.” You can donate here. 

2. Give Items

Greenville

Miracle Hill Ministries: The shelters and programs have an urgent need for canned goods, pre-cooked meats, bottled water, peanut butter, coffee, pasta noodles, and dairy products.
Donations drop-off: 725 Keith Drive, Greenville SC 29607. Monday-Friday 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.

United Way of Greenville County: The organization is collecting pop-top canned goods, boxed meals, diapers and baby wipes, hygiene products, first aid supplies, and cleaning supplies.
Donations drop-off: 105 Edinburgh Court, Greenville, SC 29607. Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Partners in Animal Care: Supplies for upstate shelter animals including leashes, collars, fleece blankets, towels, canned dog food, and canned pate cat food.
Donations drop-off: Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Rd, Greenville, SC 29607, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Greenwood

United Way of the Lakelands: The organization hosting a Hurricane Relief drive to collect items for those impacted by the storm. Needed Supplies include: non-perishable food items, bottled water, flashlights & batteries, hygiene items, laundry & cleaning supplies, and baby essentials.
Donations drop-off: 929 Phoenix St., Greenwood, SC. 

Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries: The organization is requesting $25 gift cards to Amazon, Publix, Target, Wal-Mart, Dollar General, Chick-Fil-A, Zaxby’s, Panera Bread, and Domino’s.

3. Give Blood

Greenville & Greenwood

The storm severely impacted blood supply and donations are urgently needed in order to supply local hospitals.

The Blood Connection: The centers are open with extended hours from 7 am – 7 pm.

4. Give Time

Greenville

Homes of Hope: Looking for volunteers with experience with chainsaws or clearing brush. They are collecting a list of volunteers to deploy as soon as the assessment of the damage is complete. Please fill out the form here

Greenville Humane Society: The shelter is fostering pets from both upstate shelters. Visit their Facebook page for the most up-to-date information on hours and availability. 

Greenwood

United Way of the Lakelands: Call the volunteer hotline to learn more about opportunities and to sign up to help out: 864-942-8553
